Ben Gunnarson is an active music educator and performer across the U.S. He graduated with degrees both in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from Indiana University in , and maintains a trumpet teaching studio comprised of students from across the country. Studying at Indiana under professor Joey Tartell, Ben was a member of the symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, pit orchestra, jazz band, latin jazz band, brass band, brass choir, brass quintet, jazz combo, and several athletic bands including the IU Marching Hundred. Ben studied music abroad in Vienna, Austria under Vienna Philharmonic trumpet Rudolph Amon, and also studied jazz theory and improvisation at Indiana with Pat Harbison and John Raymond.
Ben completed his student teaching at Bloomington North High School under the guidance of Thomas Wilson and Janis Stockhouse. There, he instructed the marching band, concert bands, jazz bands, and the trumpet ensemble. In addition to student teaching, Ben taught the Young Winds program at Indiana University and the marching programs at James Logan High School in California and at Blue Valley West High School in Kansas. Ben Gunnarson is a trumpet player and music educator based in Los Angeles, California. He is currently Principal Trumpet of the Bay Philharmonic and also is a member of the Disneyland Band and the American Youth Symphony. Mr. Gunnarson is the Co-Founder and Vice President of the Los Angeles Brass Alliance. He earned is Bachelor’s Degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education from Indiana University and is currently pursuing his Masters Degree at the University of Southern California under the mentorship of Thomas Hooten and Jennifer Marotta. Mr. Gunnarsonwas a Fellow at the Brevard Summer Music Festival and participated in the National Brass Ensemble Academy at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He also studied abroad with Vienna Philharmonic trumpet player Rudolph Amon in Vienna, Austria.
He has performed with the Tony® and Emmy® winning broadway production of BLAST! The Music of Disney, as well as the California Young Artists Symphony, LA Film Conducting Institute Studio Orchestra, Cinematic Brass, the Disneyland All-American College Band, the San Francisco Wind Ensemble, and West Side Story at Indiana University. Ben Gunnarson
Ben Gunnarson is a musician and educator based in Los Angeles. He received his BME in Instrumental Music Education and BM in Performance from Indiana University, studying trumpet with Joey Tartell and jazz theory and spontanitet with Pat Harbison and John Raymond. He was active in the symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, pit orchestra, jazz band, latin jazz grupp, brass grupp, brass choir, brass quintet, jazz combo, and several athletic bands including the IU Marching Hundred and IU Basketball Band. Ben also studied abroad in Vienna, Austria and was a lärling of the Vienna Philharmonic’s Rudolph Amon.
Ben has been involved Drum Corps International since , performing as a member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps where he was a four-year soloist on lead trumpet and flugelhorn. He finished the årstid Bluecoat of the Year and Bluecoats Brass Performer of the year and was part of the Bluecoat’s first DCI World Championship title. In , Ben had the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong as part of the first ever international Bluecoats delegation as part of the Hong Kong Lunar New Year festival.
